Onshore construction

Works along the onshore cable route, at the Brooklands construction compound and on the new substation have been divided into 12 stages for ease of reference during construction.

Public Rights of Way

As part of our construction planning, we consulted with users of the Public Rights of Way (PRoW) tracks along the cable route, to ensure that works requiring closures be communicated in a clear and helpful way. During the construction works we have crossed 32 Public Rights of Way and for each of these looked to minimise closures, and provide suitable temporary diversions where necessary.

Due to the flexibility in the construction programme, we have not been able to give specific dates of closures significantly in advance of construction. However, signage has been posted on the routes 14 days before any anticipated closures due to works, and more detailed information posted 5 days before the closure.

The table below will be updated with advanced warning of any PRoW closures as well as information about the planned works and construction activity progress.

These two diagrams below show examples of how a closed and an open Public Right of Way would be configured.

17 January 2018
Export cable works at Brooklands construction compound

Work to bring Rampion’s replacement eastern export cable in to the transition joint bay located in the Brooklands construction compound is now scheduled to take place over a period of approximately 48 hours between Friday 19 January and Wednesday 28 February, 2018.

A winch located within the compound will pull the cable ashore from a cable laying vessel at sea via the existing horizontal directional drill duct and duct extension. The duct was installed in 2017 and passes from Brooklands compound, under the A259 and beach, and out to sea.

The planned activity is a continual operation and so once started will require approximately 48 hours to complete. This means there may be some out of hours or weekend working required, depending on when the work begins. The start of work will be dependent on weather and suitable conditions.

Movement of vehicles and set-up of the site will be carried out where possible in normal working hours.  A low noise generator and pump will be used and noise monitoring will be undertaken to ensure compliance with the CEMP. Light spill will be minimised, in accordance with the Light Pollution Management Plan.

Members of the public can call the 0800 2800 886 phone number to contact a member of the team to discuss anything regarding the works.

North of Railway to Brooklands – Weekend working and road closures

Rampion currently has approval to work out of hours within the Brooklands construction compound for a 48 hour period between Friday 19 January and Wednesday 28 February, 2018.

The work start is dependent on weather and conditions, and once underway it will take approximately 48 hours to complete. As the nature of the work requires that it be completed in one continuous operation, some out of hours or weekend working may be necessary.
