HOP Consulting

HOP Consulting is a multi-disciplinary practice of consulting civil and structural engineers based in Brighton and Hove.

Rampion Offshore Wind HOP Consulting

Established in 1985 by two civil and structural engineers, the company offers expertise in the fields of building, structural, environmental, civil and marine engineering.

HOP Consulting played a major role in the design of Rampion’s operations & maintenance base that will be home to the 60-strong team running the wind farm. The base incorporates office and welfare facilities, as well as an industrial warehouse for storage of parts and equipment for wind farm maintenance.

HOP worked from the planning stages through to tender and into construction as the client’s engineering representative. The company also carried out civil engineering design for the site and the detailed design for new marine infrastructure, including vessel-refuelling facilities. HOP engineers’ experience of working in the marine environment, and in particular Newhaven Port, was key to helping ensure the safe and successful execution of the project.

A team of dedicated engineers has been employed and general staff, graduates, apprentices and work experience students have also had the chance to develop their knowledge, bolstering the experience required to achieve professional qualifications. From a company perspective, the Rampion project has strengthened HOP’s portfolio of marine and civil engineering services and the ability to support the wider offshore sector.

Nigel Hosker Director at HOP Engineering said:

There is a certain synergy between the offshore turbines and the landmark British Airways I360 tower on Brighton Seafront. HOP were extensively involved in delivery of both these projects, both of which, involve very tall and slender tower construction and huge technical challenges. The innovation, skills and capability of the people involved in the delivery of such a major civil engineering project should be commended.
