Operations and maintenance
The operation and maintenance of the wind farm will be carried out from a new purpose-built facility located on the East Quay and Newhaven Port.
A dedicated facility with offices, warehousing and new pontoons is now under construction and will be mostly completed early in 2018, with work on the pontoons likely to continue into the middle of the year.
This will be home to a team of 60, including newly hired apprentices, wind turbine technicians, engineers, marine workers and administrative staff, who will manage the day-to-day running of the wind farm. Eventually around 25 per cent of Rampion’s technicians will have been trained as apprentices.
The base is helping to kick start a regeneration programme in the area and is part of the Newhaven Enterprise Zone, launched in April 2017. It will enhance the local economy as staff working and living in the area will use local shops and other facilities, and we will also contract with local businesses able to supply support services.
Newhaven is also the location of the project’s construction management team, working in temporary facilities at the East Quay.
