Rampion Offshore Wind The Wind Farm Operations and maintenance

The operations and maintenance of the wind farm are carried out from a purpose-built facility located on the East Quay at Newhaven Port.

A dedicated facility with offices, warehousing and a control room was completed in 2019.

This is home to a team of 60, including newly hired apprentices, wind turbine technicians, engineers, marine workers and administrative staff, who manage the day-to-day running of the wind farm. Eventually, around 25 per cent of Rampion’s technicians will have been trained as apprentices.

The base has been fundamental to kick starting a regeneration programme in the area and is part of the Newhaven Enterprise Zone, launched in April 2017. There are eight sites making up the new Newhaven Enterprise Zone, which will initially focus on the ‘clean, green and marine’ sectors and aims to build on the town’s historic maritime strengths.

Rampion has already contributed to enhancing the local economy as staff working and living in the area use local shops and other facilities, and the organisation is contracting with local businesses able to supply support services.

Newhaven was also the location of the project’s construction management team, who worked in temporary facilities at the East Quay before moving into the new base.
