Operations and maintenance
The operation and maintenance of the wind farm is carried out from a new purpose-built facility located on the East Quay at Newhaven Port.
A dedicated facility with offices, warehousing and a control room was completed early in 2018, with work on the pontoons likely to continue into the middle of the year.
This is home to a team of 60, including newly hired apprentices, wind turbine technicians, engineers, marine workers and administrative staff, who manage the day-to-day running of the wind farm. Eventually around 25 per cent of Rampion’s technicians will have been trained as apprentices.
The base has helped to kick start a regeneration programme in the area and is part of the Newhaven Enterprise Zone, launched in April 2017. It has already started to enhance the local economy as staff working and living in the area use local shops and other facilities, and the organisation is contracting with local businesses able to supply support services.
Newhaven has also been the location of the project’s construction management team, who worked in temporary facilities at the East Quay before moving in to the new base.
