When completed, Rampion Offshore Wind Farm will generate enough green electricity to power the equivalent of around 350,000 UK homes. This is equal to almost half of the homes in Sussex.
Now into the turbine commissioning and testing phase, the wind farm comprises 116 turbines on a 70 square kilometre site located between 13 and 20 kilometres off the Sussex coast in the English Channel.
The wind farm has started generating power, with first electricity delivered to the grid in November 2017. It will be completed and fully operational in 2018.
Six years in the planning, construction of Rampion Offshore Wind Farm started in autumn 2015 with onshore cable route works.
Now under construction, the south coast’s first offshore wind farm.
Rampion is set to become a local landmark with links to communities throughout the south coast. Find out more about how Rampion has worked in the community so far.
Prior to construction a full suite of environmental surveys was undertaken. Bird, fish and ecology surveys, archaeology, navigational and socio-economic surveys, and traffic impacts assessments were all carried out to establish a baseline.
