Rampion Offshore Wind Big Bang @ Eastbourne 2018

The Big Bang @ Eastbourne was a busy and exciting celebration of the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) landscape in and around East Sussex.

As the south coast’s only offshore wind farm, Rampion has a key role to play in supporting initiatives that encourage local young people to take up STEAM subjects and consider offshore wind energy as a career option.

Held at the University of Brighton (Hillbrow), the 2018 event was visited by 15 schools and more than 600 students who were able to experience a wide variety of hands-on activities along with workshops and a show.

Rampion’s stand had two mini wind turbines that gave team members the ability to demonstrate to students how energy from the wind is converted to electricity and the differences turbine design and operation can make to the electrical output.

The event was part of the national Big Bang Near Me programme, which plays a vital role in inspiring the UK’s future scientists and engineers at a regional, local and school level.
