Local schools visit Rampion as part of Open Doors
Rampion's Newhaven construction base opened its doors to more than 50 students and their teachers as part of the East Sussex County Council's Open Doors initiative designed to enable young people to experience the world of work first hand.
During November 2017 students from Hastings Academy, Peacehaven Community School, Ratton School and King’s Academy Ringmer visited the site and were welcomed with presentations from team members, a film telling the story of Rampion and a safety induction.
They then toured the site to see some of the wind farm’s day-to-day activity including what happens in the marine coordination centre and an on-board inspection of a crew transfer vessel. They were given demonstrations from Rampion team members on how to evacuate an injured worker and with examples of the types of activities that wind turbine technicians do in their everyday roles.
Finally they had a presentation on career paths into offshore wind and the visit ended with a quiz about what they had learnt. Each student and teacher went home with an information pack and a better understanding of what it is like to work on an offshore wind farm.
