Newhaven UTC Open Evening
Rampion was one of a number of local employers to attend Newhaven UTC’s Open Evening, designed to give local parents and students the chance to learn more about the college, explore career opportunities and identify future work paths.
The four-strong Rampion team included third-year apprentice Tony Walker who was able to give young people a first hand account of how it is to be an apprentice with the offshore wind farm. He explained how his first two years were spent training with Uniper Technologies Engineering Academy in Nottingham and how, as he entered his third year, he transferred to Newhaven for his on-the-job part of the four-year apprenticeship.
There was strong interest in the offshore wind farm as a career choice, particularly with students who have a passion for the science, technical, engineering and maths (STEM) subject areas.
Rampion Offshore Wind Farm’s Plant Manager Richard Crowhurst, also in attendance, said it was great to see so many young people keen to learn more about the wind farm, its operations and the different career paths – from apprenticeships to University degrees – that can be followed to join the offshore wind sector.
